Pixum upload options

Pixum offers many options to upload your photos easily and quickly to our website. In addition to our standard upload via HTML or Flash, you can also upload your photos by using FTP or your mobile phone as well as by sending us an email or a CD/DVD.

You can always find your uploaded photos in your "inbox" in the area "My Pixum".

Please note: You can only upload photo files (e.g. JPG, PNG; of RGB colour space) of a min. size of 50 KB and max. 50 MB. (or rather max. 5 MB if you upload via email). Additionally, your photos need to be at least 100×100 Pixel.

Pixum standard upload

So that you can upload your photos as quickly and easily as possible, our website automatically selects the most appropriate upload option for you. Depending on your operating system, your photos may be uploaded via HTML or flash.

Our convenient Express Upload option allows you to upload lots of images at the same time for printing as photo prints. This option is available to you with all photo print formats up to 20cm.

Upload via iPhoto

If you are a Mac user, you can directly upload your photos from the image editing software iPhoto to your Pixum account under "My Pixum" by using the iPhoto plugin.

It's so easy:

The iPhoto plugin works for iPhoto'08 to iPhoto'11 and Mac OS X from version 10.5 with Intel processor.

Install the plugin
  1. Click on iPhoto plugin to start the download.
  2. Unpack the zip file (according to your browser).
    • Chrome: Click on the file to unpack it (at the lower left corner).
    • Firefox: Clicken on "Open" (new window).
    • Safari: The zip file is unpacked automatically. You can watch this process at the upper right corner of your browser.
  3. Install the pgk file (according to your bowser).
    • Chrome/ Firefox: Double-click on the pkg file (in the finder).
    • Safari: Double-click on the pkg file (in the download overview).
  4. Follow the instructions of the installer.
Directly upload your photos from iPhoto
  1. Restart iPhoto after competing the installation of the plugin.
  2. Mar the photos you want to upload to Pixum.
  3. Click on "Export" under the "Storage place".
  4. Click on the tab "Pixum Export" and on "Export" again.
  5. Login to you Pixum account (by entering the your user name and password) to get your photos uploaded to your Pixum inbox.

Upload via FTP

The FTP upload is especially suitable forexperienced internet users who want to upload a large number of photo files easily, quickly and without problems. You can freely download the FTP programme for the following browsers:

  • If you use Firefox, you can download the add-on FireFTP.
  • If you use any other browser: Filezilla which is available for all operating systems.

  • Quickly upload a large number of files
  • You family and friends can upload photos to your Pixum account because the Pixum PIN works as a password (but not to log in to your account).

It's so easy:

  1. After starting the FTP programme, you need to create a new connection by using the following access data:

    Host: ftpupload.pixum.com
    Login/ Username: Your email address
    Password: Your upload PIN

    If you logged in to your Pixum account, you can find your upload under:
    My Pixum Account > My personal information!

    You only need to connect to the server. If several of your friends want to connect at the same time, the connection might be cut off.

  2. Select the photos you want to upload and transfer them to your FTP list on our server.
  3. Disconnect after finishing the upload to get your photos moved to your inbox. You can now place your photos into an album or into your shopping basket.
Please note:

If you do not disconnect correctly, we will automatically move all photos to your inbox (under "My Pixum") after 30 minutes.


Upload via CD/DVD

If you would like to order a large number of photos, you can send them to us via CD or DVD. We will upload your photos to your account where they are available for you.

It's so easy:

  1. Burn your photos on CD or DVD.
  2. Download the upload form. Now you only need to print and fill out the form.
  3. Put your CD or DVD and the upload form into an envelope and send it to us:

    As soon as we have uploaded your photos, we will inform you via email.
Please note:
  • If your photo files do not fit on one CD or DVD, you can also sne dus several CDs or DVDs.
  • If you want to use the free CD/DVD upload service of Pixum, you need to be registered. You can freely register with a few steps.
  • If you want to store your photos online, place them into online albums because if you leave them in your inbox, they will be moved to your trash after 21 days (where they are available for 7 additional days) and finally be deleted.
  • We will not send the CD/DVD with your photos back.

Upload via email

If you want to use this option to upload your photos to your Pixum inbox, you only need to send us the respective photos via email. This option is ideal if you are on the way because you can also directly upload your photos from your mobile or iPhone.

It's so easy:

  1. Open a new email and enter upload@pixum.com as the addressee.
  2. Enter the following subject line: [Pixum username]:(colon)[4-figure PIN number].

    As an exampel: Werner:1234

    You can find your username and your upload PIN in your Pixum account under "My Pixum Account > My personal information".

    PLEASE NOTE: Do not Zenter a blank space between your username, the colon and your upload PIN. If your subject line differs from the requested form, your upload will not work.

    TIP: If you send the email from the address of your Pixum account, you only need to enter your upload PIN as a subject line.

  3. Attach your photos to the email.
    • Each photo has to be sized between 50 KB and 5 MB.
    • Your photos must not be included into a HTML text.
    • You can max. send 30 photos or 10 MB per email. If you send an email with more than 30 photos or 10 MB attached, it will automatically be deleted and you will get informed about the respective error.
Important notes:
  • We will transfer your photos to your account only once per hour which means that you might need to wait up to an hour before your photos are available in your inbox. You will get an email when you can find your photos in your inbox.
  • Only give your upload PIN to persons whom you trust and do not publish it in social networks because everyone who knows your PIN can send photos to your account - even such that you may not want.


By using the software Pixum ContextUpload, you can directly choose photos from your Windows Explorer and upload it to the inbox of your Pixum account.

It's so easy:

Install the software
  1. Click on Install ContextUpload and save the file.
  2. Double-click on the exe-file you saved to start the installation of the software.
  3. If necessary, confirm external demands for record by clicking on "Run application".
  4. Follow th instruction of the installer.
  5. The ContextUpload window opens automatically after installing.
Durectly upload photos from your Windows Explorer
  1. You have several options to transfer photos from your Windows Explorer to ContextUpload.
    • Open ContextUpload and you can drag one or several photos or even whole files to the ContextUpload window.
    • Mark the photos you want to upload and right-click on them to select "Upload to www.pixum.co.uk" from the menu. The ContextUpload window opens automatically.
  2. You can find a list of your photos in a the ContextUpload window.
  3. If you now click on "Upload", a new window opens where you can log in to your Pixum account. Enter your email-address and your upload PIN (which you can find under "My Pixum Account" > "My personal information".

    Note 1: If you do not have a Pixum account, you can freely register now.

    Note 2: If you tick the checkbox "Remember PIN until next start", your photos will be directly uploaded to your inbox in future.
Important notes for usage:
  • If you tick the checkbox "Always upload directly", you do not have to click on "Upload" because the upload will start immediately.
  • While you upload your photos, you can go to your Explorer and select additional photos that are uploaded immediately.
  • If you want to delete photos from the list, you might need to stop the current upload, mark a photo and press the Del key.
  • If you click on "Delete list", all entries on the list will be deleted.
  • If you want to delete the photos from the list that were already uploaded, you need to select "Update list" under "Extras".
